An infrared signal is used to transmit data wirelessly from the cuff unit to the display. This gives you the flexibility of placing the display almost anywhere that is convenient for you (as as long as it’s not too far from the cuff unit and the two pieces are in a relative straight line of sight from each other. The Panasonic EW3153W also detects Morning Hypertension, which many studies have found is a good indicator that a person may be at risk for heart attack or stroke. The unit measures average systolic blood pressures in the morning when you wake up, and also measures average levels in the evening before you go to bed. The EW3153W also offers a very convenient option which allows you to view morning and evening BP averages simultaneously – so that you can always be aware if there are problems with Morning Hypertension.

The Panasonic EW3153W not only detects Morning Hypertension, but can alert you to heartbeat or pulse irregularities as well. Early detection of irregular heartbeat or pulse could help you to avoid potential problems associated with arrhythmia.

Other Beneficial Features

The Panasonic EW3153W also provides integrated movement detection, which will let you know if the monitor is bumped or moved while you take your blood pressure. Because bumping or jarring the machine during a test can cause the results to be less reliable, the machine smartly alerts you to the problem and advises you to test again.

Using results that can be displayed in three distinct colors, the EW3153W will quickly inform you if your BP results are in the Hypertension, Pre-Hypertension or Normal range. The unit also has a very large LCD screen that is bright and easy to read as well as convenient one touch operation. The EW3153 comes with a standard AC adapter, and Panasonic is kind enough to throw in 6 alkaline AA batteries as well (that will save you a few extra bucks).

Cons of the Panasonic EW3153W Blood Pressure Monitor

None really.  The EW3153W requires that you will sometimes need to buy AA batteries in order to use the monitor! However, the battery life on the unit seems to be very good and tests show that the unit can perform about 3000 reading tests before the batteries need to be replaced. Regardless, it is still an excellent BP monitor, and I highly recommend it.
